Introduction

My name is Tammy Figueroa. I am a doctoral student in the Transformative Learning in the Global Community program at Webster University. My research interests are diverse, but I am currently focusing on Native American issues, particularly regarding education and Native children. There is a strong need for educators to be culturally responsive to the needs of the young minds they are aiding in molding.

I possess a Master of Arts in Military History from Norwich University, an MBA, MLS, and MA in International Relations from Webster University, a Master of Engineering from the University of Alabama – Birmingham, and an MLS in Indigenous Peoples Law from the University of Oklahoma. This diverse academic background has given me a unique perspective and a broad understanding of various disciplines and settings.

Currently, career-wise, I am a compliance project manager with 20+ years in the construction industry. I also have experience as a construction safety professional, a project manager, and a contract manager. As an OSHA-authorized Outreach Trainer, I also understand the importance of trainers meeting the specific needs of adult learners and my duty to stay abreast of changing educational trends and theories. My professional goal is to transition into an adjunct instructor role in history or Native studies. I am currently in the pool to teach at an Arkansas community college.

I enjoy catching up on reading in my spare time, usually while covered in slumbering cats and, more often than not, napping along with them. I am also passionate about visiting Renaissance fairs, music festivals, museums, and historical sites, as well as thrift and antique stores with my husband and family. My favorite season is Fall, the spooky season. My favorite color is yellow, and my favorite flower is the Indian Paintbrush. Lastly, I live for Dunkin Donuts decaf with almond milk. These personal interests and hobbies give me brief interludes of escape from my overthinking academic and professional pursuits.
